Faculty of design international

International interest is writ large at the Faculty of Design. In order to gain initial international experience during their studies, HAWK offers its students a wide range of language courses, excursions and international projects. In the course of the mobility semester, students can spend a semester abroad at 25 different partner universities. The double degree, which can be completed at UPB Medellin in Colombia, is also very popular among students. 

Students are competently supervised by the university during their stay abroad.

Within the framework of ISAP - International Study and Training Partnerships - HAWK awards scholarships for a 6-month study visit to the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín, Colombia in the winter semester 2022/2023 and summer semester 2023 for students of the Bachelor's degree program in Design. The scholarships are funded by the DAAD.

Scholarship Benefits

• Waiver of tuition fees at the host university
• Scholarship payment of € 1.150 Euro per month
• Travel allowance of € 1,325 Euro

Application Requirements

• Enrollment at HAWK in the Bachelor's degree program in Design
• German citizenship or equality with Germans according to § 8 para. 1 Ziff. 2ff and para. 2 and para. 3 BAföG
• 4th semester completed
• Above average academic performance
• Good knowledge of Spanish

Application documents

The following application documents must be submitted in full to the International Office by the deadline:

• Application form 
• Curriculum vitae in tabular form with photo
• Letter of motivation (description and reasons why you would like to study at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín including the importance of the stay abroad for your previous studies; extracurricular qualifications, honorary commitment in university-political, academic matters; other interests (social, political, cultural) and corresponding commitment)
• coordinated learning agreement
• current score sheet
• Certificate of enrollment from HAWK for the current semester and for the exchange semester (the second certificate can be submitted later)
• Proof of knowledge of Spanish

Note: incompletely submitted application documents will be excluded from further processing.

Selection decision

In the course of the selection process, a personal interview with a selection committee (supervisor ISAP Faculty of Design Prof. M. Schlegel, subject professor/ KF of the applicant, possibly AAA or Language Center) takes place. The following criteria are decisive for the selection of the scholarship holders by the HAWK selection committee:

• good academic performance as well as good knowledge of Spanish
• the quality of the motivation letter and the justification / meaningfulness of the planned study stay
• voluntary commitment
