What does the study programme deal with?

Students are trained in orthopaedic technology, to enable them to take a science-based approach to developing and delivering care programs.

The programme prepares students to provide independent patient care relating to prostheses and orthoses and offers the opportunity to gain a professional licence in this field. In addition to the examinations that form part of the programme, you must take only one further examination at Hannover Chamber of Crafts and Trades to gain your licence. If master’s examination board awards you a pass, you will gain your Master’s certificate.

Students learn about practical work with patients from the very first semester, whilst also gaining an academic and solution-orientated grounding.

They learn to evaluate how the latest research and development applies to their future professional practice and qualify as sought-after specialists in medical technology.

A study programme of the Health Campus Göttingen

A co-operation between the HAWK and the UMG.

What can I do after graduation?

Graduates work in orthopaedic technology and help shape the industry of the future. The following fields of employment are open to them:

  • independent patient care with orthopaedic aids (master’s certificate in the sector required by law, for fast-track access see details above)

  • Product and project management in industry

  • Training specialist for fittings

  • Research and development

  • Management roles in companies

The Bachelor’s degree in Orthobionics qualifies graduates for admission to a range of national and international Master’s programmes in this field and as well as in biomechanics, neurotechnology, robotics and  Medical Technology.

What makes this study programme special?

The study programme is unique at both national and international level. Teaching takes place primarily in the specialist orthopaedic technology training workshop at the University Medical Center Göttingen, offering direct contact with patients and experience of clinical technical orthopaedics.

To gain your master’s certificate all you need to do is pass one further examination before the master’s examination board and provide proof of having passed the trainer aptitude test. All other master’s examination content is included in the study programme and is credited towards your master’s certificate by the Chamber of Crafts and Trades.

The study programme includes the development of state-of-the-art care aids such as neuro orthotics and neuro prosthetics.

Collaborations with other healthcare professions and joint events at the Göttingen Health Campus prepare students to work in interdisciplinary teams.
