Would you like to study at the HAWK or are you already studying here? German is not your native language and therefore you are looking for support when starting your studies? You are not yet familiar with the way of learning in Germany? Then participation in the programme "Studienstart plus" (formerly: HAWK start plus) could be of interest to you.

Many international students still need time at the beginning of their studies to get used to the language during their studies and to the organization. Therefore, it is often difficult to achieve the full extent of your studies at the same time.
HAWK start plus offers you several advantages:
- In the first semesters you will take fewer modules in your course of studies. Therefore, you can concentrate better on these modules and have a higher chance of completing them successfully.
- You will receive intensive support and advice, especially at the beginning: Through regular discussions with the project staff and with mentors (students of your degree programme), you can clarify many important questions directly.
- Attendance of German courses, counselling and studies takes place in parallel. In this way, you can, for example, discuss the questions that arise during your studies directly in the German course or during counselling and thus receive quick answers.
- You will learn what is important for a successful course of study: In many countries there are other ways of organising your studies. Through learning groups, mentors and courses, you will get to know strategies that can help you to manage your entire studies well.
- You will gain important skills for your studies: Some knowledge and competences are very important for you to be able to do your studies well, but also for you to find a good job later on.
As a participant of HAWK start plus you will have more time to complete the modules of your studies: The first 2 semesters can be divided into 3 or 4 semesters. You use the additional time for offers that help you to start your studies. This means that you still study full-time. Together with you, we will draw up a plan for the activities that will replace the lectures actually planned. In doing so, we will take your knowledge and interests into account.

In addition to the courses offered, you will receive intensive advice and support from us during your participation in HAWK start plus. This support is provided by HAWK start plus:
- Individual learning contracts
- Coaching and learning counselling
- Mentor (m/f)
- study groups
- If required: Language learning advice
Under certain conditions, participation can be supported by BAföG. Further information can be obtained from the project staff or from the Studentenwerk OstNiedersachsen.
Participation can only take place after consultation with the project staff and conclusion of the learning contract.
