New part-time Master's programme in Social Work!

Thank you for your interest in the Master's degree programme Social Work in a Socio-Spatial Context. However, this programme is coming to an end, and applications for this programme are no longer possible. From the winter semester 2024/25 onwards, we will instead be offering the part-time Master's degree programme in Social Work!

“We explore the social space and learn different methods of participation by actively dealing with diversity in small learning groups on a daily basis.”
Prof. Dr. Gerhard Litges

What is this study programme all about?

The consecutive Master's programme in Social Work deals with the socio-spatial context in which people unfold their potential, develop their social networks and deal with the social problems that arise in the world we live in. In Holzminden, we place particular emphasis on social space.

The comparison between rural and metropolitan social spaces plays a central role here. As a result, students are prepared to shape diversity in the context of international and regional networks and at the same time ensure inclusion. Central contents of the programme include:

Analysis of practice/social space (theoretical and practical), research, evaluation, application-related and competence-oriented topics such as activation and participation, organisational development, media, planning and concept development, diversity and counselling/ supervision.

What can I do with it later?

The degree qualifies you to take on managerial functions in the higher civil service. Offering counselling in institutions is just as much an option as being self-employed, for which you will be prepared by acquiring skills in the field of business start-ups.

You are also entitled to do a doctorate and to continue your path in research, evaluation and teaching.

What makes this study programme special?

One advantage of the programme is its high practical orientation, which prepares students comprehensively for their future working life. In addition, the Master's programme is organised as a blended learning programme and allows you to work on much of the course contents on the internet. Your attendance at the university is usually required only on weekends in small learning groups.

You can study on a part-time basis, in addition to your job and also complete the year of recognition during your studies.

Here you will be supported by the compulsory elective modules, which can be combined individually, and by personal supervision.
