“The forest is a multi-talent and we train multi-talented people to take care of it.”
Prof Dr Bettina Kietz

What is this study programme all about?

This study programme focuses on the diversity of the forest ecosystem and aims to make you an expert in this field.

During the course of six semesters, you will acquire knowledge in the following areas, among others:

  • Forest management
  • Timber harvesting and logistics
  • Forest planning, silviculture, forest growth science
  • Soil and climate science
  • Forest operations management and timber marketing
  • Forest and society

What can I do with it later?

After completing their studies, our graduates work in professions that combine nature and office. Many take over the management of a forest district.

The management of wood processing companies, the management of a forestry company or cooperation in these specialist areas are also possible as occupational fields. In addition, there are opportunities as the manager of forest and environmental education centres or as an expert in the fields of nature conservation and landscape management.

What makes the study programme special?

On the one hand, the many career opportunities already mentioned and the good job prospects. On the other hand, it is also the way in which the study programme is structured.

You will study in small groups of only around 40 students, go on thought-provoking field trips and bring theory and practice together in your project work. We also offer elective modules that can lead to the award of the Forest Education Certificate.

You will also benefit from our applied research and the many contacts to professional forestry partners. In addition, during your studies you will have the opportunity to acquire the nationally recognized Forest Teaching Certificate, thus making environmental education one of your future career prospects.
