Support at the start of your studies

We recommend that all students whose first language is not German take part in the Studienstart plus programme. This provides more time at the start of your course, spreading the content of the first 2 semesters over 3 or 4 semesters.

The programme offers:

  • Expert coaching from experienced students
  • Individualised advice
  • Study tips
  • Opportunities to get to know nice people
  • Time, for example to improve your German language skills in an academic context
  • Further input as required

Check your inbox regularly

Most of the information you will receive about your programme will be in writing, either by email or in documentation relating to the degree. As a student, it is your responsibility to read this information or search it out.

Such information includes:

  • Published curricula
  • Examination arrangements
  • Course cancellations or changes
  • Canteen opening hours
  • Study-related events and opportunities

It is therefore best to check your emails daily (in Microsoft Outlook as well as in Stud.IP) (in German).

Gain credits for courses

Academic achievements, internships and work experience that you have gained abroad or at another university will in many cases be recognised in the context of your studies at HAWK. Credits are normally awarded after enrolment as part of an individualised process.

More detailed information is available from the relevant examination office. You’ll find contact details on the website for your degree programme.
