HAWK Students Exchange Ideas About Traditions and Customs

Publishing Date: 12.12.2022

Christmas is approaching and the HAWK International Office was finally able to invite students to Café Kolja for the traditional international Christmas party. 79 students from the University of Hildesheim and the HAWK – from a total of 29 countries – gladly accepted the invitation and started off by learning from HAWK student Alyssa Nüse about Christmas traditions and customs in Germany.

Yelyzaveta Blikharska, also a student at the HAWK in Hildesheim, compared this with the traditional Ukrainian Christmas. The interesting and very personal presentations with insights into family traditions inspired the audience.

Some students exchanged ideas about Christmas traditions in their home countries whilst drinking hot punch and Mexican coffee, while other students used the time to let their creativity flow: they folded Christmas cards and stars out of transparent paper or decorated and painted gingerbread hearts.

Suddenly, a loud "Ho, Ho, Ho" is heard from the foyer - Father Christmas is bringing Secret Santa presents to the students from all over the world. At the highlight of the evening, the pub quiz by Matthias Müller from the University of Hildesheim, teams compete against each other.

The international Christmas party is organised every year by the HAWK International Office in cooperation with the International Office of the University of Hildesheim, the Protestant Student Community and the Catholic University Community. The aim is international exchange and understanding across cultures.
