“Our study programme is unique in all of Germany. This is where we train students as managers with strong communication skills for urban trees and forests.”
What is this study programme all about?
In forests close to cities, income from forestry plays a subordinate role. Instead, the forest's recreational and protective functions as well as its positive effects on the health of the population characterize forest management. In addition, citizens feel responsible for their forests to a greater extent.
This study programme will teach you to recognize these different interests in urban forests and to integrate them into your professional decision-making processes. You will acquire profound skills in the following areas, among others:
- Urban silviculture
- Care and development of urban green spaces
- Ecosystem services of urban forests
- Urban and landscape planning
- Communication, facilitation and conflict management
- Human resources management
- Administrative structure
- Political, social and operational control governance
What can I do with it later?
As a manager of a forest office or green space office close to the city, you will safeguard the special functions of the urban forest, design projects and facilitate processes.
In doing so, you will also represent your area of responsibility vis-à-vis a (critical) public, the media and political decision-makers.
What makes the study programme special?
This is the only Master's programme in Germany to focus on urban forestry and urban tree management. Due to its interdisciplinary contents, it highlights the increasingly important areas of responsibility in urban forests.
Other advantages you will enjoy are the small semester groups (20 people), the exceptionally practice-oriented teaching and the reference to the latest research questions and discussions.
