Nursing student receives award for outstanding achievements and commitment
Once a year, the DAAD prize is awarded to international students who stand out for their excellent academic achievements and above-average social commitment. The award is endowed with 1000 Euros and is supported and presented by the International Office of the HAWK. Abdullatif Al Khalif impressed with his special interprofessional and social commitment at the Health Campus Göttingen in the study programme Nursing (dual).
Abdullatif Al Khalif began studying nursing at Tishreen University in his home country of Syria, but was unfortunately unable to complete his studies due to the security situation at the university. Nevertheless, he tirelessly supported the Deer Hafer Hospital in various areas and also volunteered with the „Red Cross“. Already backthen, Abdullatif Al Khalif showed great commitment to his fellow human beings and society.
Abdullatif Al Khalif then came to Germany for personal reasons and had a clear goal in mind - to complete his studies in Germany. After intensive German courses and a demanding assessment test at the Studienkolleg, he finally met the admission requirements for studying in Germany.
“Abdullatif Al Khalif convinced us with his constant, committed participation in the lectures and his interest in projects how well it can be possible to achieve a good university degree despite many obstacles. We found his constant willingness to shape his studies together and his ideas for building a career with good prospects very inspiring. With his positive charisma and tireless commitment both professionally and socially, he is a role model and therefore an excellent representative of our international students,” reports his Professor Dr. Shiney Franz.
In addition to his role as a father and family man, Abdullatif Al Khalif has shown himself to be extremely committed and reflective throughout his studies and has impressed with his scientifically specialist knowledge in various interprofessional lectures.
In addition to his studies, Abdullatif Al Khalif has also successfully applied for funding for a project that improves communication between patients and nursing staff with the help of a language computer. The programme offers translation functions in several languages, which is an important support in care practice. His project has now been successfully established on the ward where Abdullatif Al Khalif works as a nurse and is to be extended to other wards in the future. Once again, Abdullatif Al Khalif has shown commitment far beyond his studies and contributed to improving nursing processes.
Abdullatif Al Khalif has now successfully completed his studies at the HAWK and is already pursuing the Master's degree with a focus on Nursing Management. We are delighted that he is continuing his academic career and wish him and his family all the best for the future!
